The EnoughisEnough
Nigeria Uyo Town Hall Meeting was held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the
International Management and Finance Institute (IMFI), Nsikak Eduok Avenue,
Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The event started at
4.00pm with opening prayer by a volunteer, followed by national anthem by
participants in attendance and general introduction. The event was moderated by
Mr. Edidiong Sambo.
Introduction to EiE
Brief introduction
by organizations present at the event
was done thus; UnyimeAbasi Essien gave overview of Young Activists Initiative
Nigeria (YAIN) followed by by Edidiong Sam, who introduced Anti-corruption and
Transparency Support Initiative (ACSI) and Imoiboho Williams of Operation
Kick-of Corruption (OCOR).
The session was facilitated by
UnyimeAbasi Essien. A prelude from TY bello was used to start-up the session.
The facilitator gave a brief history of EnoughisEnough (EiE); what it has
already done; the members and profile about few of the EiE members.
The presentation also
highlighted some key issues affecting Nigerians touching
–unemployment, electricity, and education. Statistics showed that as a result of the upsurge unemployment rate, about 70% Nigerians live on less than $1.25 (aboutN150.00) per day. The deplorable state of the education sector is
proven on students poor results each year due to poor funding or mismanagement
of funds.

THE RSVP CAMPAIGN:
The presentation further featured
the RSVP (Register, Select, Vote, & Protect) campaign, such strategy EiE is
currently taking to ensure participation of Nigerians (especially youths) in
the forth-coming elections. The RSVP campaign is segmented to cover town hall
meetings, organizing presidential debates ahead of elections, developing the
ReVoDa platform and online engagement.
Town
hall meetings: As Nigeria’s
poll approaches in April (9th, 16th & 26th),
EiE has developed the RSVP, and as part of the campaign, town hall meetings are
held at various states in Nigeria to spur-up youth positive and effective participation
in the forth-coming elections. Estimates show that about 65 million Nigerians
has registered as eligible voters. At the conclusion of the registration, it is
estimated that about 70 percent out of the 65 million registered voters are
young people. Therefore, the RSVP campaign has youths as her key targeted
group.
